Workshops

This year, in lieu of Tomato Festival, we have decided to add a series of workshops to our farm schedule. We hope that you can join us for one or all.

To register, please fill out the attached FORM with your name, phone number and email address and the courses you want to take. We'll contact you to confirm your registration and arrange pre-payment.

     

Bird House Decorating

Saturday May 29th

10am to noon

For children and adults alike. We made the birdhouses and you come out to decorate them. We supply paints, coloured glass, twigs, etc. Take home your birdhouse at the end of the session.

Cost: $25 (non-member) / $20 (CSA member)

(Soup and sandwiches served @ noon)

     

Tool Sharpening and Effective Weeding

Saturday June 12th

10am to noon

Did you realize that your garden tools need sharpening frequently ... even when you first purchase them? Gregory will show you how to sharpen your hand tools and give you a lesson on proper weeding techniques. Make your gardening life easier.

Salads and Sprouts

Saturday July 10th

Noon to 3pm

Did you know that we grow over 40 varieties of lettuce? They are an amazing vegetable, easy to grow and actually have flavour. Add some sprouts and you can make a healthy and tasty main course salad. You will get some great ideas for dressings, salads and drinks ... and you'll get to taste them here at Wicklow Way Farm.

Tea Making with Fresh Herbs

Saturday August 7th

Noon to 2pm

Join Bob Garthson for a sunny session on tea making. Learn how to use fresh herbs and perennials for a calming, refreshing summer tea - hot or iced. Also, learn which herbs to dry for tea use in those cold winter months.

Bee-Appropriate Care with Brian Hamlin

Saturday August 14th

10am to noon

Brian has been working with bees since 1975. He has a couple of hives at Centre Island, on the New College roof at U of Toronto, on Georgina Island, in Peterborough and the Ottawa Valley and now at Wicklow Way Farm. Brian does not use chemical treatments in his hives and has recently started using top bars and foundationless frames.

Join Brian for a discussion and presentation of bee-appropriate care.

T3 - Tutored Tomato Tasting

Saturday September 11th and Sunday September 12th

Noon to 3pm

It is peak season for heirloom tomatoes so you'll want to come out and try them at their best. We'll taste them in order of the mildest and sweetest, through the acidic reds, the citrusy greens and smokey purple/blacks. We'll also taste some delicious "tomatoey" items that Elaina has prepared to show off her favourite fruit.
