In 1939 there were 440,000 Spanish refugees in France. Some brought
seeds with them from their gardens. Near the town of Bordeaux one of
these refugees gave Roland Robin, some seeds telling him the
tomatoes would be as big as Couilles de taureau (bull's balls).
Dominico, another Spanish refugee from the Toulouse area, also gave
this same variety to Louis Lacaze and his family. The Couilles de
Taureau variety has been adopted by many of his neighborhood
gardeners as a favorite tomato. |

tomato seeds were passed to the late Joe Thieneman, a nurseryman
