Wicklow Way Farm 2012 CSA

Register for our 2012 CSA Program here

What is Community Supported Agriculture:

Also, commonly known as Community Shared Agriculture or CSA for short.  Customers, or shareholders, purchase in advance, from a local farmer, a weekly box of produce for the season.  Most often the farmers are certified organic but some may be growing ecologically and sustainably without being certified.

While some farmers are using CSA merely as a marketing tool, most often it includes a more significant purpose, reflecting the farmer’s values related to small farms, environmental concerns, sustainability, the local community, and organic production techniques.

How it works:

Our program will run for 18 weeks.  The program runs from mid June to mid October.

The cost for the 2012 season is $550 a share.  Each shareholder will receive an average of $35 of produce per week.  Shares earlier in the season may be supplemented by other goodies from our farm kitchen.  Multiply that out and you are actually receiving $630 worth of vegetables over the season – a bonus of becoming a shareholder at Wicklow Way Farm.

A deposit of $100 is required at the time of application and the balance is due, by post-dated cheque, for May 1st .

CSA Referrals

Our CSA program is successful because of the enthusiasm of our members and our customers. We appreciate your support and would like to encourage you to tell your friends. For each new CSA member who signs up based on your referral, we will give you a $20 credit that you may use at The Mall, the farmers market, for bread purchase or towards the following years CSA.

Wicklow Way CSA Sales Rep Offer

This year we are also offering new drop locations for groups of 10 or more in the Northumberland-Toronto corridor. If you can sell 10 CSA subscriptions in your area and are willing to manage the member pickup, you will receive your CSA share for free. Please contact us to help coordinate your effort.

The Wicklow Way advantage:

We enjoy food. Really enjoy. Food is a major component of our life and we love to share that with you. We do not just grow produce, we live with it, we cook with it, we savour it. Food is not just a fuel, it is the starting point of a celebration. We will share that celebration with you.

As a professional chef for most of her career, Elaina is familiar with excellent produce and she knows what to look for and what to do with it. In her weekly CSA newsletter she will share that knowledge and passion with you along with recipes to help you appreciate the flavours of the season. It's like receiving a weekly cooking class in a box. (Here's an example of a newsletter.)

When you pick up your box we will love to talk with you further and share recipes and ideas of what to look for and what to do with your box contents.

The Bread option:

CSA shareholders can order our artisan breads on a weekly basis. Each week there will be three to four different varieties of bread to choose from.

Prices range from $5 to $7 a loaf depending on the variety. All of our ingredients are local and certified organic where possible. We use only sourdough starter and no commercial yeast.

Distribution Locations:

Distribution will be at 4 locations each week.  You will be asked on your application where you wish to pick up your box of produce.  If you wish to change your location of pick-up on occasion please let us know at least 2 days in advance.  This avoids confusion and waste.
